Hamann Manus R back transfer device?

Hi, Does anyone know if the Hamann Manus R mechanical calculator is supposed to have a 'back transfer' device? (to copy the number from the accumulator back onto the entry levers) While cleaning one I have got the covers off and found a lever inside at the back which if you rock it, you get a red flag appear at the right of the entry register and clearing the accumulator gives a back transfer effect. However, I can't find any way of getting this to work with the covers back on, there is no obvious external control. I can't believe the mechanism is there for no reason. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks,
