The 408 uses 5 AA nicad batteries that can be replaced if you open up the calcualtor (one screw) and do a bit of soldering. You need to buy 5 AA nicad WITH SOLDER TABS and connect them in series -- or you can buy these pre-connected from some place like Digikey. Inside the calc you'll see that the 5 nicads are connected to the calculator via a 2-pin plug. Just disconnect this by pulling it straight apart. Remove the battery pack and you'll see how it was put together. I think it'll be pretty obvious to you, but email me if you have questions.
