Removing corrosion and battery replacement in TI1500

I recently obtained a TI1500 at a garage sale, and the original NiCad batteries have leaked over time. I removed these and noticed small amounts of corrosion on the electrodes and circuit board. What solvent should be used to clean these? Would a normal pair of linked NiCad batteries be used as a replacement? Thanks
