Exactly the same thing has happened to my FX-451. I tried using hot air to prise away the plastic sleeve to get at the connecting ribbon but unfortunately it seems to be quite solidly glued all around. I am hoping that if it is possible to get at the ribbon then it can be patched with silver paint or similar. The only option seems to be to cut through the sleeve with a knife but I'm a little reluctant to try that as it will never be the same again after that :-(
