As Katie said, the older (boxy) Summit calcs are made to be sealed forever. Not only is the casing about 1mm thick and pretty durable, it's impossible to cut it open without leaving heavy traces. In addition, the lower shell is glued to the electronics (to be exact: to the Nicads, which are soldered onto the PCB), which makes it even harder to remove it. I guess you'd better not try to open it ;)
