"Before Pascal "perfected" his machines, he tried many different methods and some 50 models were discarded. He truly believed that his machines would save men hours of labor. However, they did not work well. Accurate gear cutting was not perfected. The mechanisms were forever out of order, and only Pascal and one of his workmen could fix them."
