"This is a view looking directly down on the top of the machine on the left side. The crank handle (upper left) vertically positions the mechanical multiplication look up table. A row of pins is registered with the rack gears. The handle is locked in position by a series of numbered holes in the top plate that would be underneath the knob on the upper end of the handle. As the machine goes through an operation, the entire table is shifted to the right wherein the pins shift the rack gears to the right.

The bulge left, center, is the hand hole in the left panel of the machine The gear and shaft are on the left end of the stepped drum in the carriage." Jim McDermaid
